A Generator for India!!!

Imagine sitting in this room in the evening with 19 other children, completing your school homework and the electricity goes out. Ugh! I know some American children (my first-born son!) who would celebrate that no more homework can be done for the evening. But not the children in this picture. They truly value education and know with God's help, this could be a means of their livelihood some day.

Well, with the help of some friends, the money has been raised for a generator for the orphanage in India!!! I cannot express to you all just how wonderful this is for the children and adults. The utilities do not run 24/7 in Visakhapatnam. The electricity is off for 4-6 even sometimes 8 hours a day. While we were there in May, the electricity was off usually from 9-11am and from 2-4pm. It started to become a joke because every time the electricity went off, we bolted out of our bedroom to the outdoors. Without the fans circulating the air it was miserably hot. The kids were so gracious to us about the heat. They would run and grab hand-held fans and take on the task of keeping us cool. The first couple of times we would try to say, "Oh, that's ok, you don't have to do that." But soon enough we gave up on that and helped them find the fans when needed! Oh, and if you ever visit India, don't even think about wearing layers in the summer months. There were times I envied Rajkumari's sari with the open midriff.
The generator will not only keep the fans going, but the lights also. Dinner time in India is 8:30pm. The cooking and eating happens in complete dark when the electricity is out. Also, the children do some of their schoolwork in the evenings and need light for that. You can see why the generator is such a huge need for them. No, not everyone in India has a generator. But not everyone in India has 20 children in their home, either. We give thanks to our Great Lord who saw fit to bless our dear Indian friends in this way. They have long prayed for this item and were like the persistent widow who kept asking. The Lord consented and gave them their desire. How wonderful!
