I had the privilage of attending a ladies' Christmas brunch event with my friend, Tabitha, this past Saturday. It is a great event her church hosts each year at the beginning of December. The event is held in the worship center. Large circle tables with seating for eight replace the traditional rows of chairs that normally occupy the space. The tables are then hosted by individual members of the church. The hostesses each pick a theme for their table and decorate accordingly and then populate their table. Part of the fun is arriving early so you can view all of the different tables. Tabitha blessed each of her guests with a paid for seat, lovely snowflake setting, yummy dessert, and of course her presence.
Tabitha is one of those people who really knows how to be a good friend. She's honest, a good listener, humorous, reliable, and very very thoughtful. We have this crazy tendency to have children close to the same time. Our oldest and youngest kids are just a month or so apart. Well, after we had our third, Micah, she had already had her third, Rachel. She called and was checking up on me and offered to make a meal for us. Wow! She had her hands FULL and was offering to help us. That's Tabitha, very thoughtful. Her words are seasoned with genuine care for you and love for the Lord. You always come away from your time with her refreshed and peaceful. Tabitha has a very calming effect on me. Even when she's calling one of her kids down on something, it's gentle and controlled. (I'm working on acquiring that traight!) As you can tell, I admire her for many reasons.
Ok, back to the event... The speaker's subject was Generational Blessings. Of course, in Christian circles you hear about generational curses all the time, but not many people emphasize the blessings that are passed down from one generation to the next. Her testimony was similar to mine. She was raised in a Christian home. The Lord drew her to himself and she was born again while she was a young child. She never really rebelled and was spared many heartaches and baggage because of her relationship with God. She also was able to say that all of her family and her husband's family were born again. That's not a common occurrence, you know?!
The event was very touching and still continues to make me think about what was shared and what my response should be. On the way home I called mom and had to tell her I was so thankful that God had placed me in their family. Thankful that she and dad raised me in a home where God and things of God were loved. Thankful that the Lord didn't allow any major rebellions in our "line". Thankful for my Grandparents and their love for God. My brother and I attribute many of the blessings we've reaped to their prayers through all the years. Thank you Lord, for the "Great Cloud of Witnesses" that has surrounded me all these years! Now, disclaimer, I know it is unwise and eternally dangerous to assume that every single member of our family is saved. It is much more wise to assume that each is not until proven otherwise, lest we be slack in sharing the gospel to our loved ones. How many times have assumptions led to disastrous results?! And we're talking about eternity!
I've also been thinking about what I'm doing/not doing to pass on blessings to my children. The Lord has given us three to look after, so I must be diligent. I must confess that I do not make the most of every opportunity with my children. But that is not my desire. I've started talking to the kids about the Greatness of God more, but I know I need to do more. I'm not sure at this point. I'll have to think more deeply on this. I have all sorts of ideas running through my mind of things we could do. But I need to ask the Lord what are the most important ones and start there. I'm thinking scripture memory is definitely one thing I need to plug into our day.
What are some of the things you all do or have done with your children in this regard?
Sorry no pictures this time. But I look forward to your comments on this one! hint-hint

Thanks for the link, Kat. I really liked what she had to say. I especially loved the photo prayer box. My kids will enjoy that for sure. We may just give circle time a try.
