Ladies' Night Out

Some friends and I went out the other night for Ladies' Night! woo-hoo! Terresa hooked us up with some VIP passes to a fashion show. I had never been to a fashion show before. Fun! We sat on the second row from the runway. Drinks were brought to us and I could have leaned over and touched the MC. Too funny. It was at a club in downtown Austin. No, not 6th street. This is really not my scene, so I had fun admiring the palm trees surrounded by cement and the outdoor setting behind a fence between two buildings. The new styles were pretty... interesting. Only a few outfits could I come close to imagining myself wearing. Although I had no clue where I'd wear those outfits. Maybe if I came to another Runway show! Oh, and by the way... Jellies are back. Not just flat jellies...no major heeled jellies. All I really remember about jellies was that when you got dirt in them, it turned into sweaty mud pretty quick. Yuk!

What most interested me about the show was the different people there. All were trendy, most were younger, some looked like they wished and still thought they were younger, and the guys... well they all seemed too concerned about looks to be guys. Not what I'm used too at church, ChuckECheese, and the grocery store. Hey, where else is a mom of three supposed to venture out to?

But more than their appearances, I kept wondering what these people's mental lives were like. What did they think about. What do the models think of when they jot down the runway? What do they think of all us who are watching them? What does the lady in a leather mini-skirt standing holding a drink by the camera man think? Are some thinking, "I'll never look that good in that outfit?" Or maybe, "I'd look better than her." Does the model think, "Don't trip, don't trip, don't trip..." I cought myself wondering how many of these people might be Christians. How many have ever truly heard and understood the gospel. How many don't care.

I used to think that everyone in the United States has at some point been presented with the gospel. I'm learning that's not the case. Yes, they've all been around it, but have they truly been presented a clear gospel? Not necessarily.

Back in February I rode a ski lift with a fifteen-year-old kid who didn't really know who Jesus was except for the Christmas and Easter stories. Is that enough? Is that all we're willing to tell those who seem to not be interested? Shouldn't they hear more?

Well, all that from a Runway Fashion Show. Who would have thought?
